Fox served as chancellor of North Carolina State University from 1998 to 2004. During her term as chancellor, the university became nationally recognized as a leader in the fields of biotechnology, nanotechnology, genonomics, bioinformatics and nonwoven textiles. In addition, the university began a significant capital construction project which involved the renovation of the university buildings and infrastructure.
